Production Diary Entry - 28/12/16 & 29/12/16

DAY 1

Me and my group decided to do a two day filming activity- which worked out well because we managed to shoot most of the footages that is needed for post-production. There were slight changes because of loss in props and weather conditions.

The few bits that changed were the atmosphere (first filming was with the fog but we decided that it is best if we filmed with a normal weather condition), main character/actress' hat and location wise (one of the members of our group managed to find the perfect tree where one of the characters could sit on which matches with out storyboard well.)

Here are images to show what happened during the day:

DAY 2

Our day 2 filming was longer than the first day because we had to re-shoot extra footages for our music video. Here are images of what we did during the day. We filmed all of the smoke bomb scenes that will be included to the narrative scenes, it was kind of a struggle because of the weather but at the end, we managed the shooting well.

Production Diary Entry - 23/12/16

We filmed our drumming scenes in Terminal Studio in Central London for 2 hours. We had a couple of issues that were solved during the filming of the scenes. Firstly, the studio was too bright and did not have any black background as we wish. So, to overcome this, we managed to switch the lights off and use a beam of light which directly hits the drummer and the drum kit.

Here is a montage of the behind the scenes when filming the drumming scene:

Production Diary Entry - 17/12/16

Note: Due to the foggy weather conditions, there is chance that the fog would not appear again so we decided to re film the first part of the narrative scenes that will be included to the music video- but here are some Behind The Scenes of us filming in Richmond Park.

Production Diary Entry - 14/12/16

My group and I did a few changes by filming the projected screen in the drama studio The reason for this is because, we wanted to show a moving image as it gives out a great effect on camera. However, the photography studio did not have a projector which is what we needed- luckily for us the drama teachers enabled us to use the drama studio in order to access the projection and the white wall.

The results of the footage's were very successful and we were all pleased with how it turned out; here are images of the behind the scenes when filming the shots.

Colour Grading Experiment

Colour grading allows the video editor to control the image. A video clip conveys more than the content it contains. A varied and intentional colour palette in video can inform the audience in a multitude of ways. The mood of a narrative is enhanced by the use of colour grading. Me and my group decided on filming mini footages in order to experiment a suitable grading; the result turned out to be superior as well as the quality of the camera that is shown in the video. We analysed the content with different information.

Here is the comparison between our original footage and the footage that was colour graded in Adobe Premier Pro. You can clearly see that the footage on the left was more natural; however we did not play around with the brightness because we think that it was best to stick with the actual lighting in case of whitewashing the subjects in the video.

We feel like that the experiment was successful; we will try out different colour gradings that will be suitable for our music video.

Record Label logo tutorial - 13/12/16

ACTIVITY

During one of our lessons, we were taught how to use Illustrator using the basics such as direct selection, pathfinder, pen tool, alignment and combining shapes. Adobe Illustrator seemed a bit complicated at the beginning but gradually throughout the lesson, I managed to overcome the difficulties of the software which allowed me to design a batman logo.

I decided to proceed with the Batman logo tutorial which resulted to a successful outcome. I think that the software was useful and simple to use; it could also make a variety of designs as well as just logos. Here is a screenshot of my Batman logo- it was quite challenging at first but it got more in complex when using the tools that was shown to us in the beginning of the lesson.

During my spare time, I also wanted to excel my skills in Illustrator by creating sample logos and combining colours and shapes together. This enhanced my ability when using the software because of its complex tools as well as its settings. Firstly, I drew out a circle in the center of the page, along with a triangle in the center of the circle.

I played around using the tools that is provided in Illustrator, changed the colours and adjusted the stroke to be a bit more thicker. The colour that I chose compliment each other well as it presents simplicity.

To your left, is the practice design I achieved and I am quite please with it.

DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT OF MY RECORD LABEL LOGO

I started off by sketching out designs that will be suitable for a record label logo such as the following: (insert drawing of record label designs)

Choosing the most suitable and appropriate designs for a typical record label logo, I illustrated the designs using Illustrator- as I designed my first few logos, I kept adapting it which results to me doing more than 2 designs:

FINAL DESIGN

Choosing from my four designs, I decided to use the first option from the images above. This is because, it gives a professional look to it, and it follows a typical record label logo convention such as the aesthetic of the logo, the colour and the layout/design. I will be placing the logo at the back cover of my digipak.

Production Diary Entry - 07/12/16

Our very first production together is in the Drama studio where we filmed a lipsync/performance scenes that will be included to the music video. We set up the lights as well as the cameras that is needed for the production. Filming was not too difficult inside the drama studio because we managed to shoot the desired shots and angles that is needed, the studio lamps' lighting were a massive positive impact on our filming because it has made our footage look more professional.
